There’s been a new COVID-19 outbreak at a South Coast jail.

The Santa Barbara County Jail had 11 inmates, and one staff member test positive for the coronavirus in mid-August. Since then, the total grew to 65 inmates, and four staff members. The outbreak is centered around the South Module of the jail.

One inmate had to be hospitalized. Those who were infected were isolated.

With the help of the Santa Barbara County Health Department, testing was stepped up to insure the outbreak is being controlled. It’s the first major outbreak at the Santa Barbara County jail in the last few months.
