A mandatory indoor mask requirement for everyone regardless of vaccination status goes back into effect in San Luis Obispo County Wednesday.

Mask use is required as of Wednesday for indoor public places.

The surge in COVID-19 cases on the Central and South Coasts has prompted San Luis Obispo County to bring back an indoor mask mandate.

People will be required to wear masks in public places indoors as of Wednesday, regardless of vaccination status.

County health officials say they went from less than 200 new cases of the virus diagnosed in June to more than 3,500 so far in August.

Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties brought back mask mandates earlier this summer.
