Ventura County Sheriff's Office
Ventura County Sheriff's deputies arrested a kidnapping suspect in Oak View Saturday night.

Officers say the Oxnard man pushed a woman into the trunk of his car, but the victim was rescued with help of a witness.

Deputies say they arrested a registered sex offender after he kidnapped a woman in Ventura County.

It happened Saturday night, in the Ventura County community of Oak View. Deputies say James Apodaca lured a woman to the back of his car, and then shoved her into its trunk. But, as he was driving away, the woman popped the trunk open, and started screaming for help.

A witness flagged down a passing Sheriff’s deputy. The officer stopped the car. Apodaca got out of the vehicle. Deputies say he was armed with a metal pipe, but he was subdued, and arrested with the use of a taser.

The woman was unhurt. The Oxnard man was arrested on kidnapping, and assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer charges.
