A Ventura County based university has received a major federal grant to help struggling high school students in a South Coast community.
California Lutheran University is getting nearly $1.4 million from the U.S. Department of Education to try to help high school students in South Oxnard. The goal is to decrease the number of dropouts, while increase the college admission rate.
The funding is a five-year extension of Cal Lutheran’s Trio Program. It started in 2016. Cal Lutheran officials say all of the high school students in the program during the 2019-2020 school year graduated from high school, and nearly 80% went to college.
Cal Lutheran is the parent of KCLU Radio.
