More than 30 cats and nine dogs were taken to animal shelters.

Authorities say they rescued dozens of neglected animals from a ranch in a remote area of Ventura County. Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies received a report of a large number of animals being kept under inhumane conditions in the Lockwood Valley area.

Deputies went to the ranch with Ventura County Animal Control Services officers, along with officers from the Humane Society of Ventura County.

They say they found more than 200 animals, with some living without food, water and adequate shelter. Some 50 animals were removed from the property, including 30 cats, nine dogs and four chickens.

No charges have been filed, but an investigation is ongoing.
