A woman was found unresponsive in her cell.

Authorities are hoping an autopsy will help determine what led to the death of a Ventura County jail inmate.

Deputies say they found Jocelyn Gomez unresponsive in her cell at the Todd Road Jail facility Sunday night. Efforts by jail staff, firefighters and paramedics to revive her were unsuccessful. The 23-year-old Oxnard woman was pronounced dead at the jail.

Deputies say she was in a cell by herself.

In addition to the autopsy, as is standard practice, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau is investigating the death.
