Three Candidates From Central, South Coasts Qualify For Governor Gavin Newsom Recall Election

Secretary of State's Office reports 41 people qualify for September ballot

The official list of people who qualified to run in the Gavin Newsom recall election includes two candidates from the Central and South Coasts.

Kevin Paffrath of Ventura, Sam Gallucci of Oxnard and Daniel Mercuiri of Simi Valley are among the 41 people meeting filing guidelines to make the ballot.

Paffrath is a real estate investor and financial advisor who has more than two million social media followers. The Democrat is running on a platform of cutting state income taxes and improving transportation. Gallucci is a pastor at Embrace! Church in Oxnard. He was a tech executive for software maker PeopleSoft. His priorities include tackling homelessness and improving education. Daniel Mercuri is an executive with production and investment companies. The Republican says he is an alternative to career politicians who have been doing a poor job.

There are 21 Republicans and eight Democrats on the ballot, as well as two Green Party members, one Libertarian, and nine independents. The election is set for Sept. 14, but ballots will start going out in the mail next month.
