Illegal rifle, pistol, hundreds of rounds of ammunition seized

Sheriff’s deputies say they made a frightening find in a vehicle parked outside of a Central Coast casino. They found an illegally modified high powered rifle, a pistol, and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

It occurred in the parking structure of the Chumash Casino, in the Santa Ynez Valley. Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies were called there Tuesday afternoon after casino security officers reported finding a man unconscious in a car, with drug paraphernalia on his lap.

Deputies say Jacob Southard of San Luis Obispo was conscious when they arrived. They say when they searched his car, they found the weapons, plus illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia.

The 27-year-old man was arrested on more than a half dozen felony and misdemeanor charges, and the weapons and drugs were seized.
