Ventura County Prosecutors Say Man Who Threatened To Kidnap, Sexually Assault Ex-Girfriend Gets 11-Year State Prison Sentence

They say Idaho man continued threats against victim's family even after conviction

Ventura County prosecutors say a man has received an 11 year state prison sentence after being convicted of stalking and threatening his ex-girlfriend.

Prosecutors say Justin Zinman targeted his ex-girlfriend, who lives in Simi Valley.

The say last December and January, the Idaho man sent her e-mails and text messages in which he threatened to kidnap, and sexually assault her. He was arrested in January after he drove from Idaho to Ventura County, and showed up at her home with a knife.

Zinman represented himself in a jury trial, in which he argued his messages were protected as free speech. The 33-year-old man was convicted of making a criminal threat, and stalking.
