Man Arrested In Las Vegas For Central Coast Killing

Extradition to Santa Barbara County pending

A man wanted for a Central Coast murder has been arrested in Las Vegas.

A confrontation between two groups of people in Santa Maria led to the fatal shooting of Mario Merino. Santa Maria Police detectives were able to identify Alfredo Alaniz Junior as a suspect in the May 16th murder.

The investigators were able to track him down Alaniz to Las Vegas. He was arrested this week. Alaniz was booked into a Nevada jail, pending extradition to Santa Barbara County to stand trial for the killing of the 19-year-old Guadalupe man.
