Santa Barbara County Sheriff's detective say some current, former students identified as victims

Detectives say they are investigating sexual abuse allegations involving a former employee of an elite private high school in Santa Barbara County.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s detectives say the investigation involves Cate School. It's a private high school in Carpinteria, with about 300 students.

Detectives say they started an investigation in April after receiving reports sexual abuse incidents had occurred involving an employee on campus.

Search warrants were served at the school June 24th. The investigators say they have identified several sexual assault survivors who are current and former students. They are looking for more potential victims, as well as possible witnesses. At this point, they aren’t name the suspect, because they are concerned making it public could damage the case.

It’s the second boarding school in our region involved in sexual abuse allegations. Ventura County Sheriff’s detectives are investigation claims involving past faculty members, staff, and students at Ojai’s Thacher School.
