Authorities are trying to figure out what led to the death of a Ventura County Jail inmate.
Jail officials say that just after one a.m. Saturday, David Hernandez had some type of a medical emergency in his cell.
Deputies and jail medical staff started emergency medical aid, and paramedics took over when they arrived.
However, the 40-year-old Oxnard man was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy is pending.
