Traffic was disrupted for hours on Highway 101 between Ventura and Santa Barbara by an overturned truck Monday

Traffic diverted onto Highway 33, but thousands stuck in 101 backup

It was a tough Monday morning for thousands of motorists on the South Coast, as an overturned truck shut down northbound Highway 101 between Ventura and Carpinteria for hours.

The accident happened at about 7 a.m. The driver of the truck escaped with minor injuries. But, the accident blocked both lanes of the highway. The backup at one point stretched more than six miles.

Northbound motorists were diverted in Ventura onto Highway 33, and then Highway 150 to bypass the wreck. But, for those already stuck in traffic, it was a long wait. One lane of the 101 was reopened at about 9:30, and the highway was completely reopened just after 11 a.m.
