A CHP officer was seriously injured as he tried to stop the driver of a stolen car which at one point drove the wrong way on Highway 101 on the South Coast.
Just after 11 a.m. Monday, a car was reported to be driving northbound on the southbound side of Highway 101 near La Conchita. The car got off the 101 at Highway 150, and got onto the northbound 101 still headed northbound.
A CHP motorcycle officer started pursuing the car. However, when the car suddenly slowed, the motorcycle also slowed, and an SUV hit both the motorcycle and the stolen vehicle. The CHP officer was thrown off the motorcycle, suffering what are described as moderate injuries. The two people in the SUV suffered minor injuries.
The driver of the stolen car was arrested. The collision closed Highway 101 for four hours.
