Ventura County Sheriff's Detectives Look Into Abuse Allegations At Boarding School

Detectives say they will interview named and unnamed victims, suspects, and witnesses in independent report commissioned by Thacher School

Ventura County Sheriff’s detectives have launched an investigation into a boarding school where decades of sexual abuse have been reported.

Officials with the Thacher School in Ojai hired an outside law firm to do an investigation after reports of abuse involving faculty members, staff, and students dating back more than three decades was reported.

The report documented numerous examples of sexual abuse and harassment. Sheriff’s detectives say some of the past incidents had been reported, but the majority weren’t. They say they will evaluate every allegation to see if a crime occurred, and if the statute of limitations will still allow for prosecution.

They are also looking for additional potential victims and witnesses. Meanwhile, the Ventura County District Attorney’s office is offering its victims assistance services to help those impacted by the incidents.
