The Justice Department has reached a settlement with San Luis Obispo County over accessibility issues for inmates with disabilities at the County Jail.
DOJ officials say their investigation showed that inmates with mobility issues didn’t have legally required equal access to all of the jail’s services and activities.
The DOJ says county officials fully cooperated with the investigation, agreed there are problems, and indicated they will address them.
The Sheriff’s Office reports that it’s already made some of the changes called for in the agreement, and is in the process of making others. Sheriff Ian Parkinson says the county is committed to be in full compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act.
