One Dead, One Seriously Injured In Highway 101 Crash; Driver Arrested

16-year-old girl dies at scene; 17-year-old girl critically injured

A South Coast man is facing a manslaughter charge following a weekend car crash which left one person dead, and a second seriously injured.

The crash happened just after 4 a.m. Sunday, on southbound Highway 101 near Victoria Avenue. CHP investigators say Nelson Rivas of Oxnard was driving. They say he drifted off the road, and went down an embankment. The car overturned.

Two passengers were thrown from the car. A 16-year-old girl from Ventura was pronounced dead at the scene. A 17-year-old Oxnard girl was critically injured.

CHP officers say they arrested the 22-year-old Oxnard man for driving under the influence of alcohol and felony gross vehicular manslaughter.
