A billionaire has given two South Coast colleges the biggest gifts in their histories.
Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott donated $20 million dollars to Santa Barbara City College, and $15 million to Cal State Channel Islands. It was part of $2.7 billion dollars in gifts made by Scott and her new husband Dan Jewett.
The gifts were focused on what Scott described online as underfunded and overlooked institutions.
The philanthropist is the ex-wife of billionaire and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. She’s given more than $8 billion dollars to non-profit organizations in the last year. Forbes Magazine estimates her net worth at $59 billion dollars.
