Addition means Santa Barbara will have direct flights to 11 cities, including Chicago, Dallas, Denver, and Las Vegas

With air travel picking up in the United States as the pandemic eases, a major airline has announced plans to add new service to Santa Barbara.

Alaska Airlines will offer daily direct roundtrip service from Santa Barbara to San Diego. The one hour flight will allow travelers to avoid what can be a four to five hour drive between the cities because of traffic in Los Angeles and Orange Counties.

There will be a daily 4:30 p.m. flight out of San Diego which will arrive in Santa Barbara around 5:30. Then, the return flight will leave Santa Barbara at 6:15 p.m. The new service will start June 17th.

With the addition, Santa Barbara Airport will have direct flights to 11 cities, including Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Las Vegas, and Seattle. Airport officials say business has been steadily improving during the last few months.
