No homes damaged by blaze

Firefighters now have the upper hand on a 20 acre brush fire on the Central Coast which at one point threatened some homes.

Santa Barbara County firefighters say the 20 acre blaze started just before 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Ballard Canyon area of the Santa Ynez Valley. It put up a huge plume of smoke visible for miles.

While some homes were threatened, none are reported damaged. Firefighters stopped the spread of the fire in about 90 minutes.

One outbuilding was damaged by the blaze. There’s no word on its cause.
