Popular Highway Rest Stops On South Coast Closing For Upgrades

Will be shut down through early 2022

If you regularly drive between the Central and South Coasts, there's some news which might affect your commute. The only highway rest areas on Highway 101 in Santa Barbara County are going to be closed for several months for upgrades.

The northbound and southbound Gaviota Roadside Rest Areas will be shut down starting this Friday, with the closure expected to last into February of 2022. The wastewater treatment and electrical systems will be upgraded. The $4.6 million dollar project also calls for installation of a new water storage tank, and construction of a new crew building.
