Detectives Arrest Man For What They Say Was Fatal Road Rage Incident On South Coast

Man struck by vehicle in Oxnard; Dies days later

A Ventura County man has been arrested for murder following what detectives are calling a road rage incident.

On April 23rd, Oxnard Police were called to the area of Pacific Avenue, and Mountain View Avenue over a possible hit and run. They found Matias Lopez lying in the street. The Oxnard man had been hit by a car. The 52 year old man died on May 6th.

Witness told detectives that the driver of the car and the victim had been in an argument in the middle of the street over a minor traffic issue. They say the driver got into his vehicle and hit Lopez, and then fled the scene.

Detectives and prosecutors say they determined that Peter Codella intentionally hit Lopez. The 65-year-old Oxnard man was arrested on a second degree murder charge.
