Developers give community campaign eight day extension to raise money for purchase

A campaign to buy, and preserve more than 100 acres of scenic undeveloped foothill land on the South Coast is now less than a million dollars away from reaching its goal.

A developer has key permits to build eight luxury homes on part of 100 acres plus of land in the foothills of San Marcos Pass, just east of Highway 154. But, hundreds of community members came together to try to preserve the land.

The developer, the Chadmar Group, agreed to sell the property if the “Foothills Forever” campaign could raise the $18.6 million dollars for the purchase in 90 days.

June 1st was the deadline. But, the campaign is so close to the goal the developers gave the effort an eight-day extension. The campaign has $17.9 million dollars pledged. $700,000 more is needed by next Wednesday, but organizers feel confident people will step up to help meet the goal.
