$17.3 of $18.6 million dollar target raised as of Friday night

A campaign to buy, and preserve just over 100 acres of scenic land in the foothills above Santa Barbara is close to its goal, as it approaches a June 1st deadline.

As of Friday night, the “Foothills Forever” campaign has raised more than $17 million of its $18.6 million dollar goal.

The property is beautiful hilly grasslands just east of Highway 154 on San Marcos Pass.

A developer has the key permits to build eight luxury homes on part of the property. Many area residents want to preserve it. So, the Chadmar Group said if the community could raise $18 million dollar to buy the land in 90 days it would sell it.

June first is the deadline…and organizers of the “Forever Foothills” campaign say they now have $17.3 million pledged. They say they need $1.3 million more…they $18 million for the purchase, plus $600,000 for campaign, escrow, and closing costs.

The property is adjacent to the existing 200 acre plus San Marcos Foothills Preserve.
