Authorities Say They Seize Thousands Of Plants In Environmentally Sensitive Area Of Santa Barbara County

Charges could include criminal and environmental counts

Nearly 8000 marijuana plants were seized and destroyed at what authorities say was an illegal marijuana grow on the Central Coast.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies and State Department of Fish and Wildlife officers raided the parcel on the 1400 block of Tepusquet Road in Santa Maria.

It’s an environmentally sensitive area where the county has banned cannabis cultivation. In addition to the illegal growing charges, state officials say they will be seeking prosecution for damage to a nearby stream bed.

No arrests have been reported in connection with the raid.
