Blaze burned near hundreds of homes

Three teens have been arrested in connection with a brush fire which caused a big scare in Ventura County, burning dangerously close to hundreds of homes.

The fire led to evacuation orders for hundreds of people in a Westlake Village neighborhood April 29th.

The Country Fire burned 28 acres of land in a canyon off of Country Valley Road before it was controlled. No homes were damaged.

Some residents stopped some teenagers they saw leaving the area just after the fire started. Arson investigators from the Ventura County Fire Department, and County Sheriff’s Office questioned the teens.

The investigators determined the fire wasn’t intentionally set, but the teens were arrested this week on reckless burning charges. It’s a type of charge used when someone does something like accidentally starting a fire with a discarded cigarette butt.

The 15 year old, and the two 14 year olds were released into the custody of their parents.
