Goal is to provide low cost rides for people like healthcare workers after regular bus service ends for evening

A South Coast transit system is starting a new late night shared ride service to fill in some of gaps after regular bus service stops.

The Gold Coast Transit District is launching something called “Late Night Safe Rides.” It will use its paratransit vehicles to provide service in western Ventura County from 8 to 11 p.m.

The fare will be two dollars for a one-way trip. Part of the idea is to provide an affordable transportation option for people who work into the evening. People can make reservations, or call at least an hour in advance of when they need a ride.

Gold Coast is funding the one year pilot program with a federal grant.
