Investigators say events appear to have been random

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies say they’ve tracked down and arrested a man who had been randomly threatening people with what appeared to be a rifle.

The first of two incidents was Saturday on Stagecoach Road, on San Marcos Pass. Deputies were called to the area by reports of a man in a car pointing a rifle at people. No one was hurt, but he was gone by the time officers reached the scene.

Then, there was a similar incident Wednesday near Goleta, in the Winchester Canyon Area. Again, the man was able to flee before officers arrived.

But, deputies say received enough information from the two incidents to identify the man, and his car. They arrested Marcelino Valente-Cruz of Santa Barbara without incident. Deputies say the weapon was a BB gun which looked like a rifle.
