Santa Barbara County Jail Now Reporting It Is COVID-19 Free

No new cases reported

The Santa Barbara County Jail has reached a big milestone. For the first time in months, officials say its COVID-19 free.

Like many correctional facilities in the region, it was hit hard by the virus. The close proximity of inmates and staff, with limited ability to socially distance made its spread hard to prevent.

The Main Jail had 217 inmates test positive, with one death.

118 Santa Barbara County Jail staff members also tested positive, but all but one are recovered, and back on the job.
