Series inspired by pandemic safety requirements

The pandemic may still be limiting the ability to have concerts on the Central and South Coasts, but a unique effort which combines the drive-in movie concept with live music is back this year.

The “Concerts In Your Cars” series includes concerts, as well as movies is returning to Ventura. A giant stage, with massive video screens has once again gone up at the Ventura County Fairgrounds.

The blend of a drive-in movie concept with a live concert was created last year. People could watch their vehicles, or in lawn chairs next to their vehicles which were socially distanced.

The lineup last year included performances by The Beach Boys, Snoop Dog, and comedians David Spade and Rob Schneider, as well as movies.

This year, there’s larger LED video screens, an expanded sound system, and a concession stand. Last year, because of COVID-19 safety concerns, no on-site concessions were offered.

Officials with event promoter CBF Productions in Ventura say while the concept was created as a result of the pandemic, they are hoping to make the popular events a regular feature at the fairgrounds.

This year’s season kicks off this weekend, with Ziggy Marly live in concert. Other events include rapper Nelly, Lucha Libre live wresting, and a series of movie screenings. Link to "Concerts In Your Cars": www.concertsinyourcar.com
