Man considered longtime "person of interest" in case arrested for murder; Father arrested as accessory

Cal Poly student Kristen Smart disappeared in 1996, while walking home from a party with classmate Paul Flores. It was later presumed she was murdered. Flores was considered a person of interest in the case. But, San Luis Obispo County Sheriff Ian Parkinson says new evidence and interviews gave them enough to make arrests.

Flores was arrested on a murder charge at his LA area home Tuesday. His father was arrested his Central Coast home for being an accessory:

Despite a number of searches, Smart’s body hasn’t been recovered, but the sheriff says they are determined to find her.
