Prosecutors say the man robbed a Central Coast credit union, and then unsuccessfully tried to rob a bank in Santa Barbara County

Investigators say last October, Maurice Pilgrim Junior of Detroit robbed a Lompoc credit union. They say two days later, he tried to rob a Guadalupe bank, but fled after seeing a security guard.

Bank employees called 911. Law enforcement offers spotted the 19-year-old Detroit man driving on Highway 1. It led to a high speed chase, with speeds topping 100 miles an hour. The pursuit ended when Pilgrim lost control of his car, and crashed near the Vandenberg Air Force Base Visitor’s Center.

After entering a guilty plea, sentencing was set for June. Pilgrim faces up to 20 years in federal prison.
