A brush fire Thursday afternoon burned some ten acres of rugged hillsides between Simi Valley and Moorpark.

It was a long, hot Thursday afternoon for some Ventura County firefighters, as they battled a blaze in some foothills off of Highway 118.

The blaze broke out just after one p.m. northwest of Simi Valley, putting up a plume of smoke visible throughout the eastern part of the county. The fire was on the north side of Highway 118, between Madera Road in Simi Valley and Collins Drive in Moorpark. No homes were threatened.

The ten acre blaze disrupted traffic on the westbound 118. Firefighters were able to get the upper hand on the fire in about two hours. There’s no word yet on the cause.
