Fatality Leads To Closure Of Northbound Highway 23 In Thousand Oaks

The Thursday morning commute on a key Ventura County freeway has been disrupted.

All northbound lanes of Highway 23 are closed between Highway 101 and Janss Road because of a fatal accident involving a pedestrian.

Details remain sketchy, but authorities received word of a body in the the number two lane at 5:09 am.

By around 5:20, first responders had closed all northbound lanes at Janss Rd with subsequent closures at Hillcrest and the 23/101 interchange.

As traffic backed up, CHP started to escort vehicles behind the accident off of the freeway at the Janss exit.

The county coroner is on the scene and there is currently no estimate as to when the highway will reopen.

UPDATE:  CHP expects that the highway is expected to reopen around 10am, pending completion of the accident investigation.
