An illustrious panel of Vietnam Veterans will speak at the Carpinteria Valley Museum of History on Friday, May 16 as the next talk in the Talk & Talkback speaker series. Panelists include Lt. Col. Patricia Rumpza (US Air Force, Santa Barbara), Lt. Gen. Fred Lopez (US Marines, Santa Barbara), Tom Elliott (US Marines, Santa Barbara), Craig Belknapp (US Marines, Carpinteria), and Peter Bie (US Army, Carpinteria). Personal remembrances of the war period and reflections on the legacy of the Vietnam War will be the focus of the panel.

The 2025 Talk & Talkback Speaker Series is hosted by the Carpinteria Valley Museum of History. The Vietnam War: Personal Recollections 50 Years On will be presented in partnership with Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 218 Santa Barbara and will be held on May 16 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the museum, 956 Maple Ave. in downtown Carpinteria. The talk is free for members of the museum and veterans, and $10 for visitors.

Directed by Dan Pritzker and shot in beautiful sepia tones by Academy Award-winning cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond as a modern reimagining of early silent film, LOUIS (originally released in 2010) is an homage to Louis Armstrong and the birth of American music. The grand alleys and cemeteries of 1907 New Orleans provide a backdrop of magic for 6-year-old Louis as he navigates the colorful intricacies of life in the city and acquires his first cornet.

Winner of nine Grammy awards and a Pulitzer Prize in music, Wynton Marsalis is one of the most outstanding jazz musicians and trumpeters of this – or any other – generation. A favorite among jazz musicians and audiences worldwide, he is a brilliant composer and a bandleader in the tradition of Duke Ellington, and the driving creative force behind Jazz at Lincoln Center’s creation and success. Up next in the Carpinteria Valley Museum of History’s Talk & Talkback Speaker Series will be Jim Campos’s talk about the art of citrus crate labels. Campos, Carpinteria historian, educator, and former editor of the Citrus Label Society’s bi-monthly newsletter, The Citrus Peal, will provide a historical overview of citrus crate labels related to Carpinteria and Santa Barbara between 1885 and 1955. This illustrated history of one of Carpinteria's most historically important industries will include many rarely seen labels, as well as details of the varying types and styles of labels from decades past.

The 2025 Talk & Talkback Speaker Series is hosted by the Carpinteria Valley Museum of History. The Art of the Citrus Crate Label will be held on Thursday, July 10th from 5 p. m. to 6 p.m. at the museum, 956 Maple Ave. in downtown Carpinteria. The talk is free for members of the museum and $10 per person for visitors.

The Neal Taylor Nature Center (NTNC) is located within Cachuma Recreational Area in a picturesque old ranch house. Developed and operated by a corps of committed volunteers, it offers exhibits on the local valley and mountain environment for all ages, emphasizing hands-on exhibits for children of all ages.

Informational Sessions for people interested in being a Mentor to an adult with intellectual/physical disabilities. California Mentor's purpose is to match Mentors (Adult Foster Families) with these special individuals looking for a place to live. We partner with Tri-Counties Regional Center to meet the individuals. Every Tuesday at 10 am and Wednesday at 6 pm we host Zoom Informational Sessions to people who want to learn more about our program. It would be great to post this information on your calendar of events.
