More than a decade after Seinfeld, the comedian is making a move to even smaller screens. His new webseries, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, premieres Thursday. NPR's Mandalit del Barco looks at this latest stage in Jerry Seinfeld's career.

About a fifth of adults in the U-S are using the Internet and the World Wide Web, a number which is growing daily. Many of these people get some of their news from on-line newspapers that are spinoffs of regular daily papers. The New York Times, the Washington Post, and the Los Angeles Times all have some presence on the Web, but the on-line editions do not have the circulation or the advertising revenue to match their print equivalents, and most do not make any profit at all. Robert talks to editors and advertising researchers about the possible financial futures of publishing on the Web.

The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum (SBMM) presents “Global History and the California Missions: A Sea Story” with author, artist, educator, and native Californian Janet Dowling Sands on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at 7:00. This beautifully illustrated presentation will explain how the missions were inextricably linked to global maritime history and prehistory, including the latest research on the origins of California’s indigenous people, whose ancestors came to the Americas thousands of years before the first European soldiers and missionaries arrived.

About the Speaker
Janet Sands, author of On a Mission: The Real Story of the California Missions, has developed a unique perspective on history—shaped by extensive research and by many years of engagement with educators, scientists and historians. She is a California native with a degree in Art History from the University of California, Berkeley. She is a lifelong student of history, art, and the natural world, and a collector of American regional art. She is currently working to complete her next book, Collision of Cultures: A Traveler’s History of the American Southwest.

The use of traditional instrumentation like the eight string jarana, four string requinto, quijada (donkey jawbone), and tarima (wooden platform) produce their unique and electrifying sound.


Las Cafeteras has performed with Mexican icons Café Tacuba, Natalia LaFourcade, Lila Downs, Gypsy Kings, Colombian superstar Juanes, hip-hop artist Common, Los Angeles legends Ozomatli and Los Lobos, with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, and many more.

What if the parts of yourself you have thrown away were the very things that could set you free?

This August, Trash Club, a new solo storytelling show by acclaimed writer and performer Elaine Gale, invites audiences to laugh, cry, and dig deep into the messy magic of being human. Directed by Teagan Rose, the show will run August 6 and 7, 2025, at 7 PM at the Center Stage Theater in Santa Barbara.

Born out of a real-life Trash Club Gale started on the streets of Los Angeles, this raw and irreverent performance mixes storytelling, stand-up, ritual, and a dumpster dive into the fire of human spirit. Through tales of divorce and heartbreak, midlife reinvention, the death of her mother, and a once-in-a-century pandemic, Gale asks one central question: “What parts of myself have I thrown away, and am I brave enough to dig them back out?” Along the way, unlikely sages help her decide what is worth repurposing.

Camerata Pacifica, noted for its adventurous musical offerings, continues its season with an intriguing program of remarkable works for percussion and piano that features two sets of musical spouses, April 1-6, 2025, at four Southern California locations.

The musical athleticism of acclaimed piano duo Ran Dank and Soyeon Kate Lee, spouses who “produce an entirely unified sound… (and) fool our ears into believing all the notes are coming from a single musician” (The Berkshire Edge) is showcased on Stravinsky’s electrifying The Rite of Spring for Piano Four Hands. They also perform Poulenc’s Elegie for Two Pianos, a tender and beautiful memorial to a friend, and J.S. Bach’s Three Chorale Preludes, arranged for piano duo by Hungarian composer György Kurtág.

Camerata Pacifica Principal Percussionist Ji Hye Jung and percussionist W. Lee Vinson, spouses as well and both lauded for their extraordinary talent and enthralling performances, join Dank and Lee to let their mallets fly on Bartók’s landmark Sonata for Two Pianos and Percussion.

Since moving to Los Angeles from her native Guatemala, singer-songwriter-producer Gaby Moreno has released 9 albums, received her first Grammy award in 2024 for her project X Mí (Vol. 1) (Best Latin Pop Album, 2024), earned additional Grammy nominations for her albums Alegoría (Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album, 2023) and Illusion (Best Latin Pop Album, 2017), and has won two Latin Grammy Awards (Best New Artist, 2013 and Best Traditional Tropical Album, 2023).
