A brush fire has burned 1300 acres of rugged hillsides in eastern Ventura County, and has prompted evacuations. The Easy Fire is between Simi Valley and Moorpark. County firefighters say 6500 homes are considered to be at risk. It started near Easy Street just after 6 Wednesday morning, and high wind pushed it south along Highway 23, into the hills around the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.
Highway 118 remains open in Simi Valley. Highway 23 is closed from Thousand Oaks to Moorpark.
Some 800 firefighters, aided by more than a half dozen air tankers and nine helicopters are battling the blaze.
More than a dozen school districts cancelled classes today, as has Moorpark College, Oxnard College, Ventura College, California Lutheran University, and Cal State Channel Islands.
The fire is near the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, but it’s not considered to be threatened. It’s burned part of the hillside between the library and Highway 23. It’s been evacuated, and will be closed today.
Some outbuildings have been destroyed, but there is no word of any homes being lost.
