Usually, off-leash locations for dogs on the South Coast are limited to certain beaches, or designated open spaces on the edge of city limits.
But now, the City of Santa Barbara has opened an off-leash area in the center of town.
A half-acre site at MacKenzie Park has been cleared, landscaped and fenced off.
The city says it will be a great spot for dogs (and their owners) to socialize, play, and not have to come back home muddy or sandy.
There are areas for both small and large dogs. Owners are asked to comply with a list of rules that includes mandatory dog tags, and use of a leash outside the facility.
