Drama Looking At Columbine Shooting Earns Honors For Cal Lutheran Theater Program

Mar 26, 2019

A South Coast theater program has won national honors. The Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival gave two awards to California Lutheran University’s production of “columbinus.”

The play looks at the 1999 Columbine High School shootings through the eyes of survivors, the parents of victims, and the journals of the attackers.

The Cal Lutheran production was supposed to open in November, but it was cancelled after the Borderline Bar and Grill attack. It was later staged as an invitation only performance.

In Feburary, it was revived for the Kennedy Theater Festival in Los Angeles. The festival honored the production with its award for production and performance, as well as its citizen artist award.

Cal Lutheran is the parent of KCLU Radio.
