South Coast Spelling Bee Tradition Goes Virtual

Some South Coast elementary school students were spelling up a storm over the weekend, as a more than five decade old tradition continued in Ventura County.  SAGE Publishing and Corwin sponsored the 56th annual Ventura County Spelling Bee.  Because of the pandemic, it was a virtual event this year.

This year’s winner was Arth Dalsania, a student at the Camarillo Academy of Progressive Education.  The win allows the sixth grader to advance towards a slot in the national finals in Orlando, Florida.

Dalsania won by correctly spelling the word “obumbrate.”  In case you are wondering, the word means to overshadow, or to cloud.
