Armed Man Arrested After Four Hour Standoff With Officers On Central Coast

A tense situation in which a Central Coast man barricaded himself in an apartment, and then charged at police officers with a knife ended without anyone being seriously injured.

San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s deputies say Jefferey Gomez went to visit his grandmother at an apartment complex in Paso Robles early Friday morning.  She called police, saying she was concerned about his erratic behavior.

When officers arrived, the 30-year-old man barricaded himself in the apartment, at one point throwing a TV through a window.  After four hours of unsuccessful negotiations, he jumped out of a window with a knife.

Officers hit Gomez with bean bag rounds and tasers, but that didn’t stop him.  They say he then threw his knife at a deputy, and missed, and was finally knocked down and arrested.  The Paso Robles man is charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer.
