Pilot Of Plane Which Crashed En Route To Santa Barbara County Identified

Authorities have identified the pilot of a plane which crashed en route to Santa Barbara County, killing two people.

The single engine plane had just taken off from Van Nuys Airport when it crashed and burned in a nearby industrial park.  Pilot Jim De Varennes died in the Friday afternoon crash, as did a female passenger.  Her name hasn’t been released yet.

The 62 year old man was from Pacific Palisades.

FAA officials say the plane was headed to Santa Ynez Airport.  They are trying to determine what led to the crash.
