Man Dead After Apparently Falling Off Roof Of Central Coast Courthouse While Fleeing Police

A man being stopped by police for running a red light on the Central Coast is dead, following what appears to a bizarre accident.

San Luis Obispo Police stopped a car for running a light early Sunday morning near Monterey and Santa Rosa Streets.  But, by the time officers reached the vehicle, the man had fled on foot.  A search was started.

About a half hour later, a person walking by the nearby San Luis Obispo County courthouse found a man bleeding on the ground.  Richard Archuleta of Oceano was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives think the 56 year old man jumped a fence and climbed up onto the courthouse’s roof, but then fell and was fatally injured.
