New Search Warrant Served In Efforts To Solve Disappearance Of Central Coast College Student

A new search warrant has been served in connection with the unsolved disappearance of a South Coast college student more than two decades ago. Kristin Smart was a Cal Poly San Luis Obispo student. She was last seen returning to campus after a party in May of 1996.

She was legally declared dead in 2002, but her body has never been found.

San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office detectives served a warrant at the Los Angeles area home of Paul Flores. He was a classmate of Smart’s at Cal Poly, and detectives have called him a person of interest in her disappearance. They aren’t detailing what was sought in the warrant, or if anything was recovered.

In February, detectives served search warrants connected to the case at four locations in California and Washington State.
