Ventura County Man Accused Of Trying To Stab Police Officer With Screwdriver

A Ventura County man is accused of trying to stab a police officer with a screwdriver.  It happened Monday afternoon on the 600 block of Meta Street in Oxnard.  Detectives were driving in the area in a marked police car when they heard a woman yelling for help.

The officers stopped, and saw a man identified as Oscar Villareal trying to run from the area.  When they ordered Villareal to stop, they say he pulled out a screwdriver and tried to stab one of them.  The officers used a stun gun on the Oxnard man.  It didn’t work, but they were able to safely tackle him.

No one was hurt.  The officers say before they arrived, Villareal had been threatening the woman with a weapon. He was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest.  Police say it’s the 16th time Villareal has been arrested in Oxnard in the last year.
