Authorities are trying to figure out how some drugs got into the Santa Barbara County Jail, leading to at least one drug overdose. Thursday afternoon deputies recognized an inmate had collapsed, and had the symptoms of an opiate overdose.
They used an emergency antidote to keep him from dying. Deputies then realized several other inmates in the jail dormitory area were showing signs of overdosing. Some were taken by ambulances to hospitals. No deaths were reported. The jail unit was placed on lockdown as deputies dealt with the crisis, and tried to figure out the source of the drugs.
