Some mosquitoes with West Nile Virus has been found in Ventura County.
It's the first West Nile find of the year in the county. The mosquitoes came from the City of Ventura.
West Nile doesn't cause issues for most people. But, a tiny percentage of those bitten by infected mosquitoes can develop flulike systems. And, in rare cases it can cause serious illness or death.
Those most at risk are people over 60, and those with other medical issues like cancer and kidney disease.
There are no vaccinations to prevent West Nile. People are advised to use insect repellent in areas frequented by mosquitoes, and to take steps to control mosquitoes in and around your house.
