A Santa Barbara legislator has proposed a bill to try to address potential gaps in sexual assault and sexual harassment cases involving college students. SB 493 is intended to replace a section of federal laws the Trump Administration has proposed repealing.
The new legislation by Democratic State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson of Santa Barbara would require colleges to investigate allegations of assaults and harassment of students on and off campuses.
It would also provide training to school officials, set standards for action, and require that students be kept informed of the progress of investigations.
