A proposed new law by a South Coast legislator intended to provide new tools against sexual harassment in the workplace is now on the Governor’s desk.
SB 1300 would refine legal guidelines for courts on what constitutes sexual harassment. It also bans employers from using contracts as a means of restricting workers who are victims from speaking out against abuse.
The legislation by Democratic State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson of Santa Barbara also requires employers to inform employees how to report harassment. Jackson says the bill is intended to close some loopholes and gaps in current laws.
It was passed by the State Assembly and State Senate, and is now in front of the Governor for his action.
