Santa Barbara County Reviewing Emergency Dispatch Center Options

Santa Barbara County is wrangling with some big question about how to deal with 911 calls.

The county currently has a joint dispatch facility primarily for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, and the county Fire Department. The County is trying to figure out if it could do a better job with separate law enforcement and fire department centers.

The proposals range from continuing a joint operation which would be run by a civilian manager, to separating the operations.

With a half dozen public safety dispatch facilities in the county, there’s also the question as to whether efficiency could be improved by combining some of the efforts. County Supervisors will look at the issue when the meet Tuesday.
